September 25 (32-23)

BASEBALL

Inge is awful.  I mean awfully good.

The title comes from the fact that Inge tied Lou Whitaker’s strike out record today.  Then he broke it.  Then he got one more.  But he also got the game winning hit in the bottom of the 13th inning as the Tigers won 11-10.

Before the game my daughters won an autographed Valverde photo and an autographed Raburn ball at the kids club drawing they have at the end of every season.

Bonderman gave up five first inning runs and seven runs total in 4 plus innings.  It was not the best impression to leave in what was most likely his last Comerica start as a Tiger.  In all their were three five run half innings in this game.  The Twins had two of them.  The Tigers hit three home runs in their five run half inning.

Normally I don’t enjoy the high scoring games as much as the pitcher’s duels.  This game was a lot of fun.  And having Inge get the walk off hit after setting the Tigers strike out mark was excellent.  I have never seen a batting helmet go as far as he threw his in celebration or a team show such enthusiasm to get to a guy who got a walk off hit.  This was also the first win for Daniel Schlereth who pitched the last 1.2 innings.
