BASEBALL
We didn’t win much at Radio Disney today. We got some passes to a movie debut next Saturday. We also got some bags that will work well at the swim club this year.
Andy Oliver made a spot start for the Tigers. He gave up 2 home runs, 3 walks, 4 stolen bases and hit a batsman. Yet somehow he ended up with a quality start pitching 6 innings and giving up 3 runs. Buchholz also gave up 3 runs in 6 innings- also including two home runs. He only struck out 3. I think the quality start statistic might be overrated.
Purcey debuted as a Tiger and had a 1-2-3 seventh.
The most memorable part of this game was something that only had a small chance of changing the outcome, but shocked me nonetheless. Francona pinch hit for his worst hitters and Ortiz homered. Leyland had Avila available and let Kelly and a slumping Raburn bat. Both struck out. Section 217 would have charged down there if we wouldn’t have had to go down two flights 1/3 the way around the stadium and then down to the dugout. This was crazy. The Tigers lost 4-3.
