I’ve got to work tomorrow, so I’ll be brief. Verlander face Sabathia in game 3. The aces faced off in game 3 because they only pitched 1.5 innings in New York for game 1 because of a rain suspension.
Verlander struck out 11, but gave up 4 runs in 8 innings because he didn’t spread out his walks and hits. He had two two-run innings. He struck out the side on 10 pitches another inning though. That was the most memorable part of this game for me.
Meanwhile Sabathia walked a million batters, but kept getting double plays. He only lasted 5.1 because of pitch count.
Santiago, Inge and Kelly played key roles in the scoring. (Really!)
Valverde walked two in the 9th to make sure the fans got their money’s worth of excitement before striking out Jeter to close a 5-4 win.
The Tigers have a chance to finish the Yankees tomorrow. Porcello faces Burnett.
