Screencast-O-Matic and YouTube

I have published videos on Screecast-O-Matic to my computer so that I can later upload them to Microsoft Streams. This let me use their fairly user-friendly captions (which students can then search) and lets me put videos essentially behind a paywall where students need to be logged in to see the videos.

I tried their YouTube upload recently. It uploads to a Screencast-O-Matic page at YouTube (I think- I may have authenticated at some time in the past and I seem to be able to edit the video). It certainly gives a link of the form… You can still set the video to be unpublished or private to give some privacy. It still auto captions. Editing the captions seems more difficult than usual on YouTube so I may use the upload to YouTube for quick class announcements and not for math intensive videos. I guess it is good to have options.

By the way I have not published here a lot because I am sharing my mini-blog pieces on technology on CTEIHappenings lately. I’ll probably post more here again beginning in May or July as my time in the HFC CTEI again winds down.
