Home Run Distances by Pitch

BASEBALL

In the 2010 Hardballtimes Annual I learned that in 2009 home run distance on average was around 400 feet regardless of pitch type. This is contrary to the standard thought that faster pitches go further.

It is left open whether some hitters hit certain pitches further. Some did in 2009, but more data is needed to convince me this is a skill and not random variation across the league.
