Armando Galarraga Hates Indians

Last time Armando Galaragga faced the Indians he retired either 26 straight or 28 straight to start the game depending on how you factor in Jim Joyce’s awful call at first.  Today was the first time he had faced the Indians since then.  You couldn’t expect anything like that, right?

Well . . .

Galarraga retired the first fourteen Indians.  Even more shocking for me is that he struck out 8 Indians in 7 innings of 3 hit, 0 walk baseball.  Galarraga typically strikes out four batters per nine innings.  Perry and Coke finished the game without allowing another batter to reach.  Unbelievably, Don Kelly had a four-hit game and so he singlehandedly outhit the Indians.  Inge reached four times and was a home run short of the cycle.

The Twins won again to leave Detroit 12 back.  The Tigers have been very public about putting Damon and Inge on waivers so they may be preparing fans for a trade if the right team, or no team puts in a waiver claim.  This might be Inge’s last good game as a Tiger if he is not resigned in 2011.
