BASEBALL
2-1.
A colleague and I left work at noon to see this afternoon’s game. There were many things that made it memorable.
Penny did not cover home on a pop up to foul territory with a runner on third. Victor Martinez raced to the plate and got the throw before the runner who tagged could score. (UPDATE: It turns out Josh Hamilton, the Texas base runner broke his arm on the play and will be out close to two months.)
Raburn made a catch that turned a three-run home run into a sacrifice fly.
Another Texas runner was thrown out trying to turn a double into a triple.
Villarreal relieved Penny and faced no batters as he just came in and picked a runner off first.
And to make the afternoon perfect- Cabrera batting with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth and coming through with the walk off hit.
Sure, Penny gave up some big hits. Sure Benoit blew a lead in the eighth. It was still a great game on a great day- sunny and upper 50’s.
