April 28, 2010: I Should Have Played the Lottery

BASEBALL

I think I learned that I am very lucky. My daughter and I decided to go to the April 28 Detroit game when our tickets didn’t sell. This was a fun baseball game. Scherzer pitched OK, but the results didn’t show that because Thome hit a home run on a great pitch and the Twins were able to string some hits together. He left with the score 6-1. The bullpen held, however, including over two scoreless innings from Brad Thomas. The Tigers managed to make it 6-5 with runs in the third and fourth. The Tigers then took advantage of a questionable call on a Denard Span catch to score 6 runs and win the game 11-6. That made the game itself fun to watch for Tigers fans.  The luck here is that at one point in the fourth inning the Tigers were in a situation where under 9% of teams have won when in the situation.

But, my daughter also got a ball from a pitcher during batting practice. We learned the Twins bring Target Field first season balls with them. Not all the balls had this logo- more luck.

We also learned it pays to be first at Kids Club. My daughter got to go on the field and cast the ceremonial first ballot for the All Star game during a pregame event. The luck here is that we waited 20 minutes after entering to go to the Kids Club booth.

This was a great day at the ballpark.
