Lilly #5: Round Table of Faculty Learning Communities

NOT BASEBALL

This round table featured Milt Cox. He handed out 16 essential properties for high-level faculty learning communities.

We discussed online faculty learning communities. These should still have face to face components.

We discussed challenges with using faculty from multiple schools. (DON’T).

Food is important for these per Milt Cox which make the HFC hosting form surprisingly daunting.

GVSU has a faculty team that forms more of a community of practice around online learning where people can come and go. This is something we should investigate.

All in all a faculty learning community is something I think will appeal to our faculty and the only question is whether to start small like the session from yesterday with individual faculty improving their own teaching, or something grander and more formal like that established at Bowling Green by Cox.
